• Machining & Tool Construction: Read and interpret complex blueprints, CAD models, and technical schematics to fabricate and repair precision tools. Machine Setup & Operation: Set up, align, and secure raw materials, fixtures, clamps, and tombstones on horizontal milling centers.

• Programming & Editing: Load, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs (using G&M codes) and adjust tool offsets, feeds, and speeds to achieve exact tolerances.

• Quality Assurance: Conduct in-process and final inspections using precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gauges) to ensure tools meet exact specifications.

• Tool Maintenance: Monitor tool wear and breakages, repair existing production tools, and perform preventative maintenance on machine equipment. 

• Collaboration: Partner with engineering and production teams to optimize tool designs, test newly built tools, and resolve fabrication issues. 

Key Qualifications & Requirements

• • Education: High school diploma or GED; completion of a formal machinist apprenticeship or trade/technical school certification in tool & die is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 1 to 5+ years of hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC or manual horizontal milling machines.
  • Technical Skills: Strong mathematical aptitude (geometry, trigonometry), blueprint reading, and a solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

• • Setup & Operation: Read engineering drawings, setup sheets, and work orders to safely set up work holding, fixtures, and cutting tools. 
  • Machine Control: Load, execute, and edit CNC programs (G/M code, Mazatrol, etc.) at the machine control unit to perform facing, boring, and drilling. 
  • Quality Control: Perform in-process visual and dimensional inspections using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and height gauges. 
  • Optimization: Adjust feeds, speeds, and tool offsets to optimize tool life and meet surface finish requirements. 
  • Maintenance & Safety: Perform daily routine maintenance on the machine and adhere to heavy industrial safety standards, including proper rigging and handling of large parts. 

Typical Qualifications

1. Follows all manufacturing instructions and print requirements for the production of components in area of assigned responsibility
2. Completes necessary paperwork and documentation to ensure quality conformance and the proper movement and control of product
3. Completes all quality related inspection requirements
4. Ensures all equipment and materials used to perform job functions are compliant to procedures
5. Suggest and participate in the implementation of process improvements and scrap reduction activities
6. Performs all required preventative maintenance activities
7. Adheres to all safety guidelines and procedures

Qualifications  

1. High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
2. Previous aerospace manufacturing experience preferred, but not required
3. Able to communicate effectively with management, and coworkers to promote strong working relationships and create an environment focused on teamwork
4. Flexible with work and job assignments and willing to perform any function as needed
5. Must be dependable and available to work overtime when required
6. Self-motivated and ability to work effectively and efficiently with limited supervision
7. Knowledge of basic mathematical skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
